Outliers Africa Book Club is a book club comprised of young professionals, all with a deep love for reading and knowledge and a deeper understanding of its importance and benefits to wholesome self-development. Our objective is to inspire change through knowledge, and we do that by initiating intellectual discussions on varying subject matters drawn from pre-selected books, articles, and short videos. Some of the books we have reviewed include Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers and Tipping Point, Chimamanda Adichie’s Americanah, and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Job Description

Research Associate Interns are to assist in carrying out a particular research agenda. The pay level is determined based upon the candidate’s technical proficiency. To contribute in many ways to the research project

Job Responsibilities: 

Research Associate Intern is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Conduct literature reviews of materials to be discussed at future Outliers Africa Book Club sessions
  • Collect and analyze data on various topics selected by the Outliers Africa Content Creation Committee
  • Provide ready access to all research materials for the Outliers Exco and/or supervisor
  • Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
  • Manage supplies necessary for the Outliers Book Club Sessions
  • Manage and draft response to all research-related email
  • Prepare, maintain and update website materials and content for social media engagement
  • Develop a plan to work with undergraduate students on some research projects (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as liaison/mediator between the undergraduate students and the Outliers Exco)
  • Attend and take minutes at all Outliers Book Club Meetings
  • Observe Outliers Exco (and all sub-committee) meetings as necessary
  • Prepare progress reports for the Exco, sub-committees and funding agencies
  • Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations for social media engagement
  • Monitor relevant project budgets

Minimum qualifications/requirements:
  • Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office (word, excel and PowerPoint)
  • Satisfactory academic progress (Minimum Second Class Upper Division Honours)
  • Strong experience with engaging and aesthetically pleasing social media content management (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin)
